Sinead O’Connor’s ‘Nothing Compared to you’ became a huge hit in the 1990′s EMF’s Unbelievable a very catchy song is often played at sports events. A recent commercial used the song, but used crumbelievable instead of unbelievable in it. ‘Baby got back’ in 1992 immediately gained popularity because it was very catchy and hilarious. The song is still heard everywhere in parties, movies, television and commercials. The song has been a favorite among kids and hence has been used in kid films like Shrek, Scooby Doo 2; Monster Unleashed and Shark Tale. ‘Whoomp! There it is’ was a huge hit in 1993. The Tag Team who have been described as a one hit wonder have disappeared thereafter. The 1994 release ‘Swear’ was a sweet love ballad it gained instant popularity and remains a favorite during weddings. Radio stations too obsessively played them regularly. Waterfalls by TLC in 1995 topped the 90′s music charts. Although the group had several hits to their credit ‘Waterfalls’ was far more a bigger hit than their other albums. 1996 hit Macarena overtook the country and western bars, American dance clubs, karaoke bars, parties, high school dances, weddings, restaurants and commercials. Originally a Spanish song, but the English version of the song was released with English lyrics and was called the ‘Bayside Boy’s Version’. The 1997 ‘Candle in the Wind’ by Elton John was the best-selling single of all time. Originally released in the year 1973, the lyric of this song was rewritten to pay tribute to Elton John’s close friend Princess Diana who tragically died in a car accident. All proceeds from its sale was donated to the Princess Diana Fund. Paula Cole’s ‘I Don’t Want to Wait’ can be described as the most overplayed song of the 90′s this song boosted Paula Cole’s career to a great extend. It was also the theme song of the popular teen serial Dawson’s Creek. In the year 1999 Cher made a comeback with ‘Believe’. This impressive comeback at the age of 52 silenced even her critics. This album was very different from her previous work in the sense that ‘Believe’ was an album based on dance tracks.
